Our evermore stressful and complicated lives are the real reason camping is seeing an unprecedented revival. The Credit Crunch maybe partly responsible but for many the elemental holidays of their childhoods have an ever increasing nostalgic appeal. We want our kids to have what we had, the freedom and simplicity that our kids can no longer rely on. Our pressured children thrive on a bit of old fashioned fun and a camping holiday can be just the ticket.
As for economics? Well, visit a camp site near you and take a look at the BMWs parked next to the six man tent and you soon realise that this is a lifestyle choice not an economic necessity. The number of online searches for the term “camping” compared to “villas” confirms this change in attitudes. I just hope we have enough space to accommodate all of us under canvas in our over crowded island!
