It’s official – camping and caravanning holidays are the most popular choice of UK break for families, with hundreds choosing a holiday on four wheels over a foreign beach this year. There’s no better reason to take the family to the International Caravan & Motorhome Show when it rolls up at the NEC, Birmingham between 14-19 October 2008.

Now in its third year, the UK’s favourite caravan and motorhome show will be bigger than ever, with 10 per cent more floor area – reflecting the recent boom in popularity of caravanning and motorcaravanning holidays in the UK. Driven by a rediscovered love for their home country, celebrity adoption, and a need to watch their wallets during the credit crunch, parents are realising that the freedom, flexibility, fun and value of caravanning and motorcaravanning are perfect for their families.

Why? According to research conducted for the show, caravanning and motorcaravanning holidays offer a sense of shared adventure that the whole family can enjoy. They have become the most popular paid-for holidays in the UK for the following reasons:

· Freedom of movement: With literally the whole country to choose from, families are attracted by the opportunities caravanning and motorcaravanning offer for exploring the great outdoors

· Inclusiveness: With no quarantine regulations to worry about, families can bring pets with them so the kids won’t need to worry about leaving their best friend at home

· Kids choose: Children love being able to choose where they go and what they do while caravanning

· Home from home: Caravans and motorcaravans can be easily customised to ensure children are in familiar surroundings even when away from home

· First time for everything: Children are 17% more likely to shower, and 55%2 more likely to wash up when caravanning, and holidays of this type give them the chance to learn other new skills in a safe and happy environment.

With over 300 exhibitors showing off the latest models for 2009, there is no better place to learn about the pastime than at International Caravan & Motorhome 2008. A host of specialist organisations, including The Caravan Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club, will also be on hand to answer questions and offer advice on subjects ranging from insurance to which of the hundreds of sites in the UK to visit.

International Caravan & Motorhome 2008 is truly interactive, and is designed to ensure visitors – from veteran ‘cara-fans’ and ‘motorcara-fans’ to total novices – are inspired to hit the road. A host of show features are in place to ensure that they do so safely though, including The Caravan Club’s free motorhome maneuvering sessions and the Reich Caravan Mover challenge.

While Mums and Dads test drive the Tow Car of the Year, or relax in the Buyers’ Bar following a purchase, there is plenty to keep the children amused. A free crèche, available daily, caters for children aged 2-9 years and will offer a variety of activities including face painting, circus skills and arts and crafts. What’s more, at the weekend, the show becomes a haven for kids with a variety of adventurous activities on offer – including giant Jenga, a monster pool and a climbing wall.
