Celebrating its 12th successive year in Manchester, The Caravan & Motorhome Show 2008 welcomed thousands of visitors into the impressive surroundings of Manchester Central (formally G-Mex). Running from 17th - 20th January, the Grade II listed building hosted over 70 exhibitors offering the regions best choice of touring caravans, motorhomes and accessories.
The show was officially opened by World Cup Rugby hero and Caravan Club member Jason Robinson OBE. Whilst signing autographs he chatted with visitors and exhibitors about his own hobby, “Caravanning is a lot of fun and a great family holiday. I have lots of very fond memories and stories from caravanning both as a child and more recently with my family.”
In the main hall, ‘lanes’ of shiny, new caravans and motorhomes were ready for visitors to see and try out for size. In Hall 2 the popular accessory megastore doubled in size from the previous year and offered a wide range of products and accessories from over 40 companies.
Visitors to the show, Mr and Mrs Hall from Chadderton said: ” The show has been brilliant and really interesting. Before today we had never even been inside a caravan and I think we have now been in every one here! We are looking to buy a caravan and have found a number here that we really like, the show certainly provides something for everyone.”
Another popular area was the Cookery Theatre where demonstrations were given on how to prepare good food on the go. Visitors were able to sample the delights cooked on the barbecue, and take their newly acquired knowledge home in preparation for their next holiday.
Sam North, show director, commented: “This is the 12th year the show has come to Manchester and every year it gets better. It is a local show for local people who are on the lookout for a bargain.
“The show remains the biggest in the North West and there really isn’t anywhere else in the region where visitors are this spoilt for choice. The event brings together the latest vehicles and accessories and enables people to find exactly what they are looking for in time for the new season.”
